Help
Welcome! typist.rocks helps you develop your touch typing abilities.
Beginners
For beginners, the most important thing is to learn not to look at the keyboard while typing. Here are some tips to get you started:
- You can feel two slight bumps on the f and j keys. Those are markers to help you find your bearings. Always rest your left index finger on f and your right index finger on j!
- The keyboard shown in each lesson is colored to show which finger is supposed to type which key. Stick to the assignments, and reinforce your familiarity with the keyboard as you go along.
Advanced Typists
Already an experienced touch typist? Try to improve yourself further by one of the following:
- Surpass your previous records. The previous best for each finished lesson is displayed whenever you re-start the lesson. How fast can you get?
- Focus on keys that you are not that familiar with, e.g. the symbols. Can you touch type them quickly and accurately?
FAQ
What is WPM and how is it calculated?
WPM stands for "word per minute". It's the most common measure for typing speed. Since the length of a word varies, the value 5 is used as the average word length when calculating the WPM.
My keyboard is different. Can I get practices that target my keyboard layout instead?
We're actively developing lessons for different keyboard layouts including those for different European languages (e.g. German, Russian) and East Asian languages (e.g. Japanese), as well as corresponding UI languages. Stay tuned for updates!
